Educational Art that Moves Us

Young artists will take an active approach to art – exploring artists whose physicality/movement are part of their art, learning about labor-intensive mediums, and experiencing artworks that move their audiences. Each class will include opportunities for brains and bodies to connect through artmaking, as young artists are inspired by the likes of Heather Hansen and her bilateral drawing technique; local artist David Dow, who strings thousands of seed beads to create his sculptures; the kinetic, hands-on installations of Rebecca Horn; and more!

Class themes include drawing, costume, puppetry, printmaking, beading, and more!

About Hannah: Educator Hannah Johnson has spent a lifetime immersed in the creative communities of Bloomington-Normal. The daughter of performing and visual artists, Hannah’s 10+ year career in the regional nonprofit sector has afforded her invaluable and inspiring opportunities to connect audiences of all ages and lived experiences with the arts and humanities through beloved local institutions like the McLean County Museum of History and Illinois Art Station. Hannah is a graduate of Bent Elementary School (go Superstars!), Illinois Wesleyan University (BA History, Minor International Studies), and Illinois State University (MA History). Hannah is also a graduate of the Multicultural Leadership Program (MCLP, Class of 2021), the primary facilitator of the Central Illinois Community Educators (CICE), a twice nominated YWCA of McLean County Woman of Distinction, the recipient of numerous best practices awards for her work in museum education, the named 2025 Friend of Civic Engagement (ISU), and more. Hannah honors the intersection of art and wellness and knows that some of our most imaginative ideas emerge when our bodies are in motion. For Hannah, that’s on a morning run, during evening weight training, in the midst of a mobility flow, or on a walk to wherever her feet will take her (hopefully with a dog in tow). Hannah can’t wait to create Art That Moves Us with Carle Health & Fitness Center young artists.
