Weekly Dietitian Tip: Going Out to Eat

Going out to eat?

While going out to eat can often result in getting too many calories, carbs, and dietary fats- here are some tips to help choose the best options for you:

  1. Avoid excess calories by choosing sides that include fruits or vegetables, reserving some of the meal to box up and take home, and going easy on the appetizers.

  2. Avoid excess dietary fat by choosing items with the words baked, grilled, roasted, steamed, or marinara instead of crunchy, crispy, battered, breaded, creamy, or cheesy.

  3. Avoid excess carbs by picking one to two sources of carbs for the meal instead of several sources of carbs. For example: instead of breaded chicken, pasta, and a side of fries, try grilled chicken, pasta, and a side of steamed broccoli.
