From the Wellness Team: Wellness Wednesday Nutrition Tip – Reducing Oil / Fat In Recipes

Oil Substitutes in Baking

Did you know – you can substitute pureed fruit (dates, bananas, apples, apricots) in place of oil in baked good recipes? This will lower the fat and calorie content and increase the fiber! Applesauce is a 1:1 replacement for oil, so if your recipe calls for half a cup of oil, use half a cup of applesauce instead. This trick works well in cakes, muffins, cookies, brownies, and dessert breads. Replacing 1/2 cup oil with 1/2 cup unsweetened applesauce will save you 910 calories and 112 grams of fat in your recipe!
